Faith that Works: Taming the Tongue

There is power in words.  More than we realize at times.

The tongue can do so much damage that James equates it to a fire.  With words, we can burn down our marriage; we can burn down our job; we can we can burn down our children; we can burn down the church.

Words can do so much damage.  The tongue is set on fire by hell.

What to Do?

First – Cauterize our Lips. Confession.  After his lips were clean, he then went and did the work of the Lord.  We can’t do anything for the Lord until this is done.  It is repenting of our sin.

Second – Prayer.  “Set a guard over my mouth O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3

Third – Think.  Think before we speak.  We carry power in our words.  “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”  James 1:9
