Our Statement of Faith
We believe in the creation described in the book of Genesis and that God is the creator of all things visible and invisible. (Genesis 1:1, Acts 17:24-28, Hebrews 11:3)
We believe God is all-powerful, all knowing and everywhere at all times and can do with His creation what He chooses. We believe He chooses to love His creation. (Genesis 1:1-2, Psalm 66:3, John 1:1, Colossians 1:17, John 3:16)
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit through a virgin named Mary and Jesus, being fully human and fully divine, lived a perfect, sinless life. (Matthew 3:16-17, Colossians 2:9, 1 John 1:1-3, Matthew 1:16, Luke 1:26-38)
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, who draws people to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in every person that has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and has been baptized. (John 16:8-9, Acts 2:38, Ephesians 1:13-14, 1 Corinthians 3:16&6:19, 2 Timothy 1:14)
We believe in the absolute authority of the Bible as God’s literal written revelation to men and women, boys and girls. We teach and practice the Bible as our guide to the life God is calling people to live. (Isaiah 40:8, 2 Timothy 3:14-17, Johns 1:1, Hebrews 4:12)
We believe only by the grace of God through the blood of Jesus Christ can we achieve a connection to God. We believe this connection is available for what the Bible calls salvation or forgiveness of sins. This opportunity is a free gift and is offered to all who trust Christ to re-connect them back to God. (Matthew 26:28, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10)
We believe the Bible clearly teaches trusting God means seeking God by repenting of personal sin, by confessing Christ publicly, by being baptized into Jesus and by living every day to become more like Jesus. (1 Chronicles 28:9, Acts 17:30, Matthew 10:32, Acts 22:16, Revelation 2:10)
We believe the Bible teaches baptism by immersion. While we do not teach that baptism saves us, rather it is Jesus who saves us; we do believe that God uses Christian baptism as an opportunity for us to express our faith in His ability to save us. It is a central component of what God is doing in the process of changing us. Baptism is a requirement for membership at Covington Christian Church. (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Acts 8:36-39, Acts 19:1-5, Acts 22:16, Romans 6:1-6, Colossians 2:11-12)
We believe in the physical death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe Jesus’ death paid the full price for our sins and His resurrection from the dead seals our hope for eternity. (Romans 5:5-17, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
Following His resurrection from the dead, Jesus went back to heaven and now sits at God’s right hand where He intercedes for Christians everywhere. (Luke 22:69, Colossians 3:1, Romans 8:26-27)
We believe God created everyone with the intention that we live forever, but that man willfully sins against God and without Jesus Christ is spiritually lost and is without hope of ever being connected back to God’s original design and purpose. (Romans 3:22-23&6:23, Acts 4:12, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 John 1:7, Romans 5:9, 1 Peter 1:18-19)
We believe death seals the eternity of each person and there is a real place called heaven and a real place called hell. We believe those who have trusted Jesus and accepted His free offer of salvation will spend eternity with God in heaven and those who have not will be eternally separated from God in hell. (John 5:28-29, Daniel 12:2, 2 Corinthians 4:14, Acts 17:31, Hebrews 9:27, John 14:1-3, Acts 1:10-11, Acts 10:39-42, 1 Peter 4:5)
We believe the Church is the body and bride of Christ on earth. Christians everywhere make up the church which is the hope of the world. (Matthew 16:13-18, Ephesians 5:23-32, Acts 2:14-47)
To glorify God means we honor Him through what we think, what we say, and how we treat others. We glorify Him when other people can see Him because of the way we live our lives.
We glorify Him by reflecting the light of Jesus that shines in and through us.
